M.C.L CRAFTSMANSHIP

The designs from M.C.L by Matthew Campbell Laurenza stand as works of art showcasing superb craftsmanship with the finest materials.  Matthew’s intensive design process, which for most styles requires six to eight months to complete, ensures exceptional quality that rivals top-tier luxury labels.

When it comes to inspiration, Matthew is quick to cite a variety of things that keep his mind racing. The opulent and intricate designs of the 1800s to 1900s have had a huge impact on his style and he finds the innovations in arts and architecture during the period particularly thought-provoking. Travel also has a significant impact on the work Matthew carries out:  “Travel is one of the most important influences,” he says.  “I would say my understanding of color has been influenced through my extensive travels in Asia.”  Florence, Italy remains a favorite destination and Matthew enjoys the peacefulness of its architecture.  Cities such as Hong Kong, New York and Tokyo excite him with their vivacious energy.  London and Paris offer their own classic influences.

The first stage of design takes place in Matthew’s sketchbook where he translates his inspirations into preliminary drawings. The designs are tinkered to perfection before being executed into three dimensional prototypes.

When working on pieces for the M.C.L brand, Matthew is constantly innovating and evolving his personal design style. With his passion for creating distinct pieces Matthew strives to make an impact with his accessories. From luscious jewels to statement luxury handbags, or one-of-a-kind décor and lifestyle pieces, M.C.L Design’s mission is to make daily accessorizing a powerful part of one’s style.

Quality and production is extremely significant for each piece that Matthew designs and creates. For the M.C.L by Matthew Campbell Laurenza jewelry line, colorful natural stones sourced from around the world are selected and combined for each design.  All rough stones are chosen by certified staff and cut by the finest stonecutters to ensure optimum clarity and beauty.  The difference in origin of the stones offers each design surface texture, color gradient and unique identity.

“Different regions produce different colors in even the same kind of stones,” Matthew explains.  “For instance, the amethysts we see in Brazil take on a deep violet hue where as those sourced from Africa have a pale color to them.” So it’s important that each gem is chosen perfectly to match the tones of a particular piece.

Unlike some jewelry brands that utilize adhesive products to glue their stones, M.C.L by Matthew Campbell Laurenza strictly forbids this process and only uses hand-setting. This laborious technique not only provides secure setting for all of the stones, it also results in better texture and more sparkle in every product.

Glamorous and vibrant, the Matthew Campbell Laurenza handbag materials include brightly colored embroidered patterns, fine textured leathers and eye-catching hard wares. Sourced from Italian tanneries, the leathers are treated with state-of-the-art processes to create distinctive surface effects to set the accessories apart. Exclusively designed by Matthew Campbell Laurenza, the signature embroidered fabrics made on smooth satin feature seasonally-limited color combinations ranging from summer hues to fresh icy tones.

All Matthew Campbell Laurenza bags are stitched with signature water-resistant lining and showcase the unique metal crest logo plaque, metal crest zip pull or Plexiglass logo.

All custom-designed and hand-made, the difference in appearance between two M.C.L Design pieces of the same style does not indicate production defects but rather is a reflection of the uniqueness of every item and the individual care taken in producing each piece.
